How to Roast a lamb cookbook review

Now I love new recipes. I love buying new cook books. So I have alot of recipes but there is always more I want to try . I was lucky enough to receive a copy of How to Roast a Lamb by Michael Psilakis to review. I have never ate greek food other than Gyros with the cucumber yougurt sauce mmm yummy. I was intrigued by the cover and the interesting recipes.

I opened How to Roast a Lamb and read about the chef Micheal Psilakis and it inspired me that he was self taught and went so far. He is one of the top chefs and i see why now. I then got to some of the recipes and relized I could honestly make them. They were pretty simple recipes and easy enough to put together for my family, friends and even parties. I noticed the recipe for my yougurt cucumber sauce was in there now I have to make some Gyros lol. My mom loved all the recipes for lamb chops since those are her favorite and she lost her recipe for them. There are so many recipes I want to try. Here is a few of my favorites, Wild bitter greens, roasted peppers, grilled onions, oil marinated dried tomato & kefalotiri which is a salad basically with dried tomatos, and artichokes and onions mmm i love my salads so this looks yummy. Another one is the Artichoke and potato recipe mmm. last but not least since there are sooo many great yummy recipes but another one i want to try is Shrimp with orzo & tomato. The pictures are so real in the book also it makes your maouth water just looking at them.

Now you dont have to have eaten greek food to like this book since the is recipes for anyone and everyone. There are vegetable recipes, meats recipes, soups, salads, even sauce and spice recipes. I definitely recommend How to Roast a Lamb to anyone who loves to cook or just wants to change up their dinners and lunches a bit . There is definitely something you'll love it it!

About How to Roast a Lamb: A rising star in the food world, Michael Psilakis is co-owner of a growing empire of modern Mediterranean restaurants, and one of the most exciting young chefs in America today. In How to Roast a Lamb, the self-taught chef offers recipes from his restaurants and his home in this, his much-anticipated first cookbook.

Ten chapters provide colorful and heartfelt personal essays that lead into thematically related recipes. Gorgeous color photography accompanies many of the recipes throughout. Psilakis's cooking utilizes the fresh, naturally healthful ingredients of the Mediterranean augmented by techniques that define New American cuisine. Home cooks who have gravitated toward Italian cookbooks for the simple, user-friendly dishes, satisfying flavors, and comfortable, family-oriented meals, will welcome Psilakis's approach to Greek food, which is similarly healthful, affordable, and satisfying to share any night of the week.

Halloween Eye of Newt

INGREDIENTS
12 eggs
2 drops green food coloring, or as needed
1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
1 pinch celery salt
1 (6 ounce) can sliced black olives, drained
1 tablespoon prepared yellow mustard

DIRECTIONS
1.Place all of the eggs into a large pot so they can rest on the bottom in a single layer. Fill with just enough cold water to cover the eggs. Bring to a boil, then cover, remove from the heat and let stand for about 15 minutes. Rinse under cold water or add some ice to the water and let the eggs cool completely. Peel and slice in half lengthwise.

2.Remove the yolks from the eggs and place them in a bowl. Mix in the relish, mayonnaise, celery salt and food coloring. Spoon this filling into the egg whites and place them on a serving tray. Round the top of the filling using the spoon. Place an olive slice on each yolk to create the center of the eye. Dab a tiny bit of mayonnaise in the center of the olive as a finishing touch.

Halloween Brain Dip

INGREDIENTS
2 avocados
1/2 cup prepared salsa
1 head cauliflower
6 thin slices red and blue fruit leather

DIRECTIONS
1Slice the avocados in half. Remove the seeds and set aside. Scoop the avocado out of the skin into a bowl. Mash with a fork or whisk and stir in the salsa. Set aside. Slice off one side of each pit to make it flat and expose the cores of the pits. They will look like eyes.

2.Remove all of the leaves from the cauliflower and remove the stem, leaving a nice hollow area with the outer part of the head intact. Use toothpicks to hold it together if it starts to fall apart.
Place the cauliflower into a small bowl, so that the hollow is facing upwards and most of the cauliflower is up out of the bowl. The bowl is just for stability.

3.Fill with the avocado dip and arrange the pits as eyes. Decorate the white ''brain'' by weaving thin strands of red and blue fruit leather between the florets to make veins and arteries. I wrap the bowl with cheesecloth and decorate with red food coloring to make it even more horrific!

Witches Brew

INGREDIENTS

1 (10 ounce) package frozen raspberries, thawed
2 1/2 cups cranberry juice
2 envelopes unflavored gelatin
2 liters ginger ale
2 liters sparkling apple cider (non-alcoholic)
6 gummi snakes candy

DIRECTIONS
1.To make the frozen hand: Wash and rinse the outside of a rubber glove. Turn glove inside out and set aside. In a 4 cup measuring cup, combine the thawed raspberries and cranberry juice.

2.Pour 2 cups of the raspberry mixture into a small saucepan. Sprinkle the gelatin over and let stand 2 minutes. Warm over low heat, stirring constantly, just until gelatin dissolves. Mix back into the reserved raspberry mixture in the measuring cup.

3.Pour raspberry mixture into the inverted glove. Gather up the top of the glove and tie securely with kitchen twine. Freeze until solid, or several days if possible.

4.To serve: Carefully cut glove away from frozen hand. Place frozen hand, palm side up, leaning against side of a large punch bowl. Pour in ginger ale and sparkling cider. Garnish with gummy snakes.

fun friday

so today is my oldest 11th birthday its crazy that 11 years ago I became a mom. She being my first was my lab rat honestly i was 2 weeks from being 18 when i had her and yes i watch and took care of my niece's and nephews but I had no idea how to raise a child. I was blessed with her even though her father aka Sperm donor was useless and a jerk and still is I made it through I finished high school and college with a baby. I honestly feel she is what helped me through it with out her I don't think i would of made it. She is my rock, my best friend and my baby. It seems like yesterday i was in the hospital hooked on all the medicine machines for two days to force her out and boom she was here. my 6lb 15 oz 20 inch little baby girl was in my arms. She was a tough baby with colic and no idea when to sleep since she sleep a total of 4 hours a day lol. She always loved to talk and hear herself be heard since she was born and 11 years later no change lol. I can remember her first bday, first words, first steps, singing around the house, her first dance class and recital, her first day of school and now she is 11 going on 16 honestly i am afraid to blink or she will be married with kids of her own haha. She is always gonna be my baby and she is the oldest so i have to learn everything from her so she will always be my lab rat haha !Happy birthday to my princess! I love you!

Discount School Supplies review

I know back to school is over and most all school supplies are done being bought but if your kids are like my kids mid year I have to buy more. Plus this time of the year is time to make crafts and special gifts and discount school supplies has even thing you need for school, or to make home made Christmas presents from your kids to grandma and grandpa. They even have stuff that would make awesome presents for the kids. http://www.discountschoolsupply.com/
We received the Colorations® Simply Washable Tempera Paint Kit and my kids were in awe. They love making crafts. They adore painting even if I hate the mess ha ha well at least these are washable. They flip over play dough or putty. So this kit was perfectly made for my kids. We first used the paint to decorate pumpkins and they all had a blast and the pumpkins were one of a kind lol. Even the kids were colorful! Next we decided to make ornaments for grandma and Nana for Christmas. So we used cookie cutters to cut the putty and then the kids each painted their ornaments and we are now waiting for them to dry. They are so excited to hand them their special presents.

I loved that the paint actually washed off easily and no stains even none on their clothes so that is a bonus for me. We love the variety of the colors. The Putty I like because there was no smell like other doughs. I cant stand some of the other doughs they make me sick with the smells. I think the putty was neat to the kids because it felt like foam and didn't leave their hands all sticky and doughy. The rollers and stamps were adorable and easy so that my younger ones could use them too. The best part is it is all non toxic thank goodness since my 19 month old painted her tongue ha ha.

We really enjoyed this kit and now I am looking into some of the other kits for the kids for Christmas presents. Those are my kids favorite presents. So if you want some great craft items, or school supplies or even Christmas and birthday presents check out discount school supplies at http://www.discountschoolsupply.com/ you are sure to find something you and your kids will love.

My 18 month old's new thing

Ok so my baby is almost 19th month on the 18th of this month. She has done everything before any of my other kids. She walked at 9 months, crawled at 6 months, she has no fears. She climbs on anything and everything and will jump to if you dont catch her. She is the ultimate monkey! The only thing that still babyfies her is she is still on a bottle which I know naughty naughty but she is still on formula, well Nutrimigen formula the 25 dollars a can crap because she is allergic to milk and all dairy products, So it is just easier to mix and drink and make in a bottle.

Anyways lately she has been undressing herself no matter what she is in unless its so tight she cant get it off. She strips her pants off and diaper off. She is good if I just put a new fresh diaper on her she will leave it on but if it has even a tiny bit of pee in it off it comes. She has always been this way since birth hates wet dirty diapers but now its getting extreme. I dont want to change it after every little pee or Id be broke buying diapers. I have tries cloth diapers but she really doesnt like those either. I am so sick of telling her not to take her pants and diaper off and redressing her. Ive trying putting panties over the diaper, the diaper covers, onsies, pants and etc. she takes them all off. She is one smart cookie.

She is too young to potty train i feel she is not relizing she needs to pee or poo yet so the potty training thing wont work. It is getting cold here so she really needs to stay dressed. I dont know what to do. Today she woke from her nap and strip naked and there was poo inside the diaper and all over her and her crib, I was so disgusted and frustrated. Is there any other moms that have dealt with this or dealing with this. Do any of you have tips or companies that sell something that will help. I need something asap before I pull my hair out and go insane. None of my other kids did this at this age and were not this bad. I had a few that did it when they were closer to potty training age but usually putting bottoms on fixed the problem no night gowns the problem was solved not my monkey she is way different way smarteer way more defiant way more her.

Anyone if you can help please!!!

Peacock Boutique review

Being a mom of 5 girls all with a full head of hair we love hair accessories. I have tried to make my own but it is so time consuming and time is something I don't have a lot of. I have seen a lot of places to get cute hair things but some are so outrageously priced. Well I find a place that has gorgeous hair things and great prices. So you want to know where? Peacock Boutique is that place.
Peacock Boutique has some of the most adorable headbands and hair clips I have ever seen. I am a huge flower fan and hers have such great colors, different styles and perfect for any outfit I want them for. We got a few things and we love each and every one. The first thing we got which is my oldest favorite is the button headband. What a neat idea! It is so pretty on and goes with most any outfit my daughter wears. We love how it looks.
The next thing we got was this gorgeous purple daisy. Now daisies are my favorite flowers and this ones color is perfect. I love the rich deep color of purple. I like that the clip stay place and it even looks adorable with a head band. The next things I got were adorable headbands. They are so cute. I love the crochet headbands. They don't make my kids sweat and they look adorable on. The cute flowers on them are a perfect match. These headbands would be perfect for babies or the older kids too. The one is even great to interchange different flowers or hair clip on it to change the headband if you want. That's awesome. The last thing I got was this pretty double blue flower clip. It is adorable. I love the teeth on the clip to help it stay put which is great with my 3 year olds thin and fine hair. All of these hair things are made great even with my 1 year old pulling and tugging on them to get them out they still stayed put and didn't break. I recommend Peacock Boutique to every one with a special little girl in their life. I know we are all looking for that perfect hair thing for the holiday pictures and season well head over to Peacock Boutique and find what you need. I am sure you will find something you love!

Dr. Hippos series books are perfect

We are a big book fan at our house with the older 3 reading alone out lough for 20 minutes everyday after school and then I read a story to each of the 6 kids one at a time every night at bedtime so as you count that up we go through alot of books. I love the books that we learn from alot and the kids love the books with the bright, colorful, pretty pictures. Well with the Dr. Hippo Books it does both.http://www.drhippo.com/

These books are fun, colorful, and gorgeous. They are all hard covered with is awesome. It is pretty simple to read so they make great homework reading books. I love that they get to learn what happens when you get a sore throat or diarrhea or other medical conditions. It helps them under stand these conditions in a non scary way. I love it!

My favorite has to be the little elephant with the big ear ache. My 3 littlest one have had tubes in their ears more than once so the whole ear infections are a big thing and they are too young to understand that their ear hurts for a reason with this story about the elephant going to the doctors and having him do a check up and looking into his ear made them say my doctor did that. Now I am all better. It made our doctor the hero instead of the bad guy that always gives shots. I love the connection they made.

Even if your child never gets sick which is highly unlikely but still if not these are great learning books. They are very colorful, detailed and fun to read. I think they are great book from birth to 10 then again my 11 year old loves them too so they would work for older kids too. If you loves books and reading with your kids as much as we do you definitely need to check these awesome books out. They are called Dr. Hippos Series Books and I recommend them to all children , parents and grandparents. http://www.drhippo.com/
