Energizer Weather Preparedness Tool Kit Giveaway‏ ends may 28-closed

Spring showers may bring beautiful flowers, but, they also can lead to dangerous situations and power outages that we are not prepared for. That’s why Energizer, the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) and the American Meteorological Society (AMS) are working together to help families prepare for whatever weather situations spring, summer and hurricane seasons might bring their way. A key reminder in preparedness is to use flashlights instead of candles if a storm knocks out the power. Many home fires are started by burning candles left unattended, with an average of 15,000 home fires caused each year.* The recommended emergency power kit includes a flashlight for each member of the family, a battery-powered radio for weather updates, a battery-powered cell phone charger to stay connected to loved ones and extra batteries, including those for critical devices such as insulin pumps, hearing aids and blood pressure monitors.
I know in Utah since Spring has begung we have had high winds, snow, thunderstorms, rain, and nice days. So I know first hand the  weather is unpredicable. Plus only God knows when we will have extreme circumstances like Tornados, Earthquakes, flood and etc. I can say honestly we are not prepare if one was to happen right now. Well Energizer has helped with that. They have sent me the sample emergency power kit. The kit comes in a red bag and contains the types of items to think about including in a back-up power kit: battery-operated radio( which is little and handy for emergencies. Its nothing special but a great thing to have in time of need), flashlight ( awesome! works with AA or AAA batteries it is a great emergency nessesity), cell phone charger ( I dont have a cell phone but if I did this is great it charges up to 500 times, it even charges mp3 player, ipods and more. It comes with different connectors but if it doesnt have the ones you need you can call the toll free number and get every connector you need absolutely free. Thats awesome) and extra batteries ( now we know these are always great to have). Its a start but now I got to add the rest of the things. Here is a basic list of some of the things you should have in a emergency kit just in case.

What to Include in Your Emergency Power Kit

•Battery-powered radio or crank radio, to keep your family apprised of current weather-related news.

•Plenty of extra batteries. Energizer® Ultimate Lithium and Energizer® MAX® batteries (AA, AAA, C, D and 9-volt) provide long-lasting power before, during and after the storm. Lithium batteries have a long storage life, perform well in extreme temperatures and are perfect for use in LED flashlights and other high-tech devices, while Energizer® MAX® batteries are an ideal power source for standard flashlights and lanterns.

•Flashlight for every member of the family. Use flashlights instead of candles when the power goes out. Energizer® Weatheready™ lights feature long-lasting LED technology. With versatile flashlights and area lights, the Weatheready™line is designed to keep your family out of the dark.

•Battery-powered cell phone charger, to help keep the lines of communication open. Energizer Energi To Go® power packs help keep cell phones charged.

•Extra specialty batteries. Your health is your most important asset. Specialty batteries power critical health devices like hearing aids and blood glucose and blood pressure monitors.

**In addition to back-up power, it is important to gather additional emergency supplies such as water and nonperishable food and to be sure to have copies of important documents such as medical records and insurance papers. Even a outfit a pieces for each family members. Blankets, medicines and etc. For a complete list of tips for preparing for storms and important home fire safety tips, visit www.energizer.com/preparedness .

  1. We do not have an emergence kit - even though I keep saying every year that we need to put one together. I should've learned my lesson because twice we have found ourselves without power and/or water and were totally unprepared.

  14. We do have an emergency kit--we live in earthquake country!!--but we are always taking things out of it! :)

The most obvious thing to have is a flashlight and clean water.
