Please Explain Vaccines to Me: Because I HATE SHOTS! by Laurie Zelinger PH.D #review

So I haven't read this book yet but I have kids and adult family members that hate shots and vaccines. I have also been researching and following all the recent data on the new vaccine and have given my personal opinion and researched facts on it. So This book is great to help explain to children or others why vaccines are so important and needed. I am a health degree student and have learned all about this in college and in the field and I am a huge supporter of vaccines even new ones! So this is some strong with me. So here is an actual review of this new book by someone who has read it. So don't take my word for it but check out hers!

Guest book review by Linda Buzard-Moffitt:

This book has a short rhyming story for children with cute and colorful pictures about hating to get shots at the dentist or doctor. After the part for kids there's a resource for parents and caregivers with medical definitions and facts. There is advice and tips on ways to talk to children about shots and ways to prepare them beforehand in a way they will understand. My daughter's favorite part for example: is the part about vaccines fighting to keep us healthy and the picture that goes with it shows ninjas fighting to keep us healthy. This book does NOT promote vaccines just helps with being afraid of shots or needles in general.

Shots, injections, needles, and vaccines-whatever their purpose, they all hurt. More than half of children in the 6-17 year-old range report a strong fear of needles. Nearly 25% of adults do as well. This book is for those families who cringe at the thought of getting one.

For some children, getting a shot is a major ordeal. Ramped-up anxiety can lead to tantrums, meltdowns, outbursts and even fainting. That 30-second experience can be a nightmare for parents for and nursing staff alike. This resource will help to improve that dreaded scenario.

The book opens with an engaging story for children where rhyme, colorful illustrations and characters of diversity capture a child's interest as they identify with a girl who has similar fears. The children's section is followed by a comprehensive guide for parents and caregivers, based on empirical research as well as Dr. Zelinger's decades of experience as a child psychologist, where she offers information and explicit solutions to help deal with the anxiety surrounding this common medical procedure.

Children will:
• Identify with the main character and her fear of shots
• Enjoy the colorful illustrations and happy story ending
• Learn coping mechanisms to deal with frightening situations
• Feel supported by their parents who will know how to help
• Reduce their anxiety and become more cooperative during medical visits

Parents/Caregivers will:
• Understand the reasoning behind the fear of injections
• Learn strategies to help their child before and during a medical visit
• Be better able to comfort their child

"Dr. Laurie Zelinger has done it again with another excellent child and parent-friendly book that helps to allay fears and empower families and professionals with the tools to help children develop healthy coping skills. Please Explain Vaccines to Me has it all: a relatable and simple yet engaging text in rhyme that is fun to read aloud, as well as colorful illustrations that provide an honest and relatable depiction of the emotions involved. As an experienced nurse and health educator, I see this book as a "must-have" resource for all caregivers, educators and health professionals." --Darlene Glasser, RN, MSEd

"Please Explain Vaccines to Me is a book that every parent will want to read to their child before getting a shot. It demystifies vaccinations with language that a child will both understand and want to question further. It also gives both children and parents the language they need to express their anxiety about the process and the tools to lessen that anxiety. It gets 5 stars!" --Yael Kula, MSW, LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker)

Float: The guide to letting go by Aimee L. Ruland

Anxiety, depression, and panic attacks are something that plagues a lot of people. My daughter is one of those people. She has anxiety and panic attacks. It is hard sometimes to help them through it. We’ve tried a lot of different coping methods and some work and some don’t. That's why when I got the chance to review the book called Float I was excited.

Float is a book I believe is based on the grounding method and projection for helping people especially kids to deal with their emotions. I used the idea of putting those feelings into a balloon and blowing it up and letting it go. In my psychology degree, we learned a little bit about some of this and it can work with all ages. I love the colorful illustrations and calming words. It was easy enough for my daughter to read and understand. She loved looking at the pictures and she felt it made her calmer. She liked the idea of the analogy of the balloon.

I definitely recommend this book for all ages! It might not work for everyone but it’s definitely worth a try. So pick up your copy today!

Float: A Guide to Letting Go seeks to encourage children to process their emotions gently and in a way that allows them purposeful ownership of what they think and how they feel. It will aid them in identifying the root of their feelings, help them to examine their reactions to emotions and decide for themselves what they may be ready to release. The thoughtful use of color and symbols, and the guided practice of breathwork, encourages readers to maintain a broad focus as they become more grounded and aware. The playful rhyme dances with readers as they grow on their journey to the present, where they are beautifully set free.

Readers will enjoy:
- Learning how to identify and examine emotions
- Understanding how to release unwanted thoughts and feelings
- Permission to acknowledge, accept, feel and heal in a unique way

"Aimee Ruland's book, Float, is a masterpiece of creativity where the intangible becomes relatable, fun and beautifully depicted. Teaching children mindfulness, kindness and intention regarding their feelings might just be the most important lesson we can teach them. This book belongs on the shelf of every child--or anyone who has ever been a child." --Stephanie Wharton, M.Ed., INHC

"What a beautiful message for children of all ages! A brilliant example of emotions and feelings that may be difficult for children to define with words. Float is the perfect story to help a child's mind and body unwind at the end of the day. I found myself thinking about the message long after reading the story." --Tanya Swanson, kindergarten teacher

"Beautiful, soothing words to comfort children and guide them in using imagery to help deal with the weight of daily emotions." --Susan E. Slater, children's librarian

"Float does a great job blending imagery to relate to feelings of young children. The colors of the balloons are neatly tied into each feeling discussed in the book. The strategies are appropriate, simple and thought provoking. A great read!" --Matthew Menard, M.S., M.Ed., LPC

"Aimee Ruland is the Dr. Seuss of children's therapy books. My seven-year-old loves the book, and so do I." --Jeffrey Barkstrom, LAC

All new Woody Woodpecker movie coming Feb. 6, 2018 and Activity sheets #movie #WoodyWoodpecker #freeactivitysheets

I am a 80's / 90's kid and I love sharing the toys and shows I used to watch with my kids. I am so glad my kids love watching these old movies and shows with me too. As a kids my favorite cartoon was Woody Woodpecker so when I found out they were doing a live action/ animated film I was so excited! I used to love the humor and trickery this bird always showed in each cartoon. His iconic laugh is something I will never forget. So I had to share this with my kids.

We got a advance copy of the dvd and I couldn't wait to sit down with my kids and watch it. We ll loved the pranks and humor in the movie. There was the perfect amount of action and comedy to keep us all entertained. Our age group varied from 72 down to 9 and everyone was entertained for the entire movie. There wasn't too much violence or anything so I would honestly say it is great for all ages. It is rated PG but I am guessing because of the mild violence from the poacher shooting tranq. guns and the all but honestly I really could see it rated G for all ages; it really isnt that bad. My girls thought is was hilarious and me and my husband laughed just as much as the girls. It has a great storyline with a happy ending that made us all smile. This would make a great family movie night movie. We all gave it 5 stars; 2 thumbs up! So check it out on February 6, 2018 on DVD, Digital and On Demand.  http://uni.pictures/WoodyWoodpecker

Yes a house full of lot of little girls ages 5-11 was crazy especially with all the awes and animal noises coming from them, but it was weel worth it to see all the sparkles in their eyes when they got to play with these awesome little toys. It was cute watching play house with them and take the pets to the vet and to the store and much more. These little girls have such wild imaginations and their giggle were priceless. The girls loved that there is all kinds of cute little animals. There is definitely a perfect pet for any child to enjoy. They loved all the fun sets that attached together to make cool city scenes so they could really imagine and play with their little pets. We also got to watch the Littlest Petshop animated show that is on the Discovery Family channel formerly the Hub network. The girls loved seeing their little pets come to life on TV and loved the little cartoons. I think my girls are now addicted to the show lol. Overall they all had a blast at the party!
